DAY 5 - The Canadian women come up short in the final. Losing 3-2 to the Czech Republic in overtime. Czech Repuiblic played a very good defensive game stifling the canadian attack. Brook Ludolph scored the first goal of th game. then Isabelle Chartrand equalized the game at the 17;00 minute mark of the first half. In second half Canda had more chances to win, but never finding the mark. Czech Republic wins the worlds for the first time ever in the seven year history of the event. Team Canada would like to say "THANK YOU" to all of it's supporters.
DAY 4 - The Canadian women played a great defensive game against USA to win 2-0 in the semi final. Canadian goaltender Keely Brown played outstanding in helping shut down the rival by killing off 7 penalties. Teresa Bozoian netted the first goal 5 minutes in the game on a power play. Six minutes later, Brooke Ludolph scored again for the Canadian squad on a great individual effort leaving the American defenseman in her dust. Canada defended well the rest of the game, sending the USA to the bronze medal game. Canada faces the Czech Republic Saturday for the gold.
DAY 3- The Canadian women beat Germany 7-1 in the quarter finals. The game was never in doubt from start to finish. The home town German crowd saw many well executed goals, but from the wrong side. However, the fans were not disappointed because they saw a great goal from their German team on a nice breakaway. Canada was in much better spirits, finally getting time to rest before this game. Canada coming off 4 games in 27 hours. Their 3 and 1 record caused them to finish second in their pool, forcing a semi final game against their arch rivals , the USA, Friday @ 3:30pm. France and the Czech Republic face off in the other semi final match. The Canadian squad will practise on Thursday morning to prepare for the USA game on Friday.
DAY 2 - CANADA beat Finland in their last round robin game 12-1. The girls had just been shocked hours before losing their first game in round robin play ever to France 3 - 1 . The Finns caught OUR team very ready and EXTREMELY FOCUSED. Canada made up for their poor shooting performance in the morning when they played France. During that France game, the French goalie let her nerves get the best of her. With 44 seconds left on the clock and sensing the verge of victory, even though Canada was on the power play, she tossed up all her breakfast. The Canadian shooters were shooting blanks with the help of a great performance by the 15 year old goalie from France. France scored the winning goal off a deflection of a team Canada stick. Canadian shooting was poor and even though we controlled 80% of the play, the equalizer goal would never come.
DAY 1- The Canadian Womens Inline Hockey Team opened up their 2008 World Championships appearance with a win over the Czech Republic 9 - 1 in Dusseldorf, Germany. The Czech's came out pressuring the Canadian squad, however, Keely Brown the Canadian goaltender shot down the opposition until the Canadian offense awoke ending the first half 4-1. In the second half, Latoya Clarke scored a natural hat trick for Canada. The Canadians controlled the rest of the game with precise passing and excellent puck protection skills which took the 'wind out of the Czech's sails'.
Just hours after beating the Czech Republic 9-1, Canada played Namibia who is making their 1st appearance at the World Inline Hockey Championships, beating them 5 -1. Namibia, who up until this week have been coached by a Canadian, came out feisty and checking hard. Despite the Namibian 'never give up' effort, the Canadian girls stayed calm and collective, controlling the majority of the game and generating many scoring only to half the Namibian goaltender make save after save. Nicolette Franck picked up the win in net for Canada.
